Below are some tips that will help you out on your college journey. Hopefully it is helpful and useful for you. If you have any more tips feel free to comment down below 🙂

May your college experience be filled with fun times and long lasting memories.

1. Get involved around campus.

During my college experience I was able to make friendships, travel, network and learn life skills. Some organizations will help you acquire some skills that are needed in life. For example, I’ve learn how to become a leader by being apart of my organizations E-Board. I’ve enhanced with social and verbal communication skills. I have also learned how to write resumes, showcase professionalism, and so much more. Make sure to find an organization that makes you feel welcome, safe and helps you to become a better version of yourself.

2. Budget your money.

I have so many stories on why saving money and budgeting in college is a MUST! College is EXPENSIVE! So, it’s best to save as much as you can. If you receive a refund check don’t blow it on things that you want instead use it for items you need. It’s okay to spoil yourself here and there but if you don’t have it don’t spend it. Learn how to coupon and use your student discounts! If you are living in an apartment cook more instead of eating out all the time. Try to save as much funds as you can. Having a savings account is a great thing to have.

3. Stay on top of your work.

College is a completely different playing field than high school. It’s a place where only the strong will survive. It is so easy to become distracted. Remember why you are in college in the first place: to enhance your education. Your work is extremely important especially if you have scholarships that require a certain GPA. Join study groups with students who are in the same classes or major as yourself. Take advantage of your professors office hours. Show them that you are serious about your grades and sometimes they may even help you out. Remember your work comes first. The partying and the “fun” activities that are occurring around campus will always be there. But you wont if you don’t take your grades seriously. It’s easy for your GPA to drop and hard to bring it back up!

4. Surround yourself with positive people.

Practicing self love is an essential in college. Surrounding yourself with positive and like minded people is a way to practice that. Not everyone is going to have your best interest at heart. Find friends who push you to do better. Friends who are there for you when the college life becomes overwhelming. Friends that will help you out in your time of need. Having a strong and supportive support system away from home is important. College is not easy so having friends that care about you will make the experience worthwhile.

5. Be aware of your surroundings.

This tip is extremely important. We all know and have heard about the dangers that occur to college students. College students are targets for a lot of locals around the area. There are even threats to your safety within your student population. This is why you should be aware of your surroundings. When you are at a kickback/party be cautious of who you associate with and who you take drinks, drugs etc. from. Never go out by yourself have at least one friend to accompany you. If you have evening classes walk with a friend, call someone on the phone, and make sure you walk on paths with great lighting. If you are listening to music keep the volume at a decent level so you can hear everything that is going on around you. Know the number to campus police and where to locate emergency telephones. PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES! Be safe, smart and alert.

6. Practice Safe Sex

In the words of Lil Wayne: “Safe sex is great sex, better wear a latex ‘Cause you don’t want that late text, that “I think I’m late” text…So wrap it up!” We’re not going to act like “sex” doesn’t occur on college campuses because IT DOES. It’s better to be safe then sorry. Make sure to practice safe sex! Your body is a temple and not everyone should be able to know what you possess underneath it. Be mindful of who you allow yourself to “connect” with. Contraception’s are easy to access in college. If you are going to do the “do” make sure you “do” it right. Wrap it up!

7. HAVE FUN!!!!

College is where you’ll party, interact and network with future doctor’s, nurses, educators, lawyers etc. It’s a place where you will make lifelong friendships with people who will become your best friends, godparents and so much more. College will allow you to discover things about yourself that you didn’t know you posses. Make the best of your experience while you are there. Make the best grades. Make tons of memorable and great memories that you will look back years from now and laugh at. Have fun and make this the best experience of your life.
