First off, no one knew that the year 2020 would take a drastic turn like this. This is a year unlike any other!
Since March people all around the world have been practicing social distancing, self quarantining and wearing masks for majority of the day. No longer can we leave out of our homes without being constantly reminded to “stay 6 feet apart and to always wear your mask.”
The days of large gatherings, concerts, basketball games and so much more has been temporarily put on hold. With no one knowing when our lives will return back to “normal.”
This year of 2020 has caused most of our lives to slow down and has forced most of us to learn things about ourselves and life in general.
I have learned so much during these unforeseen times and I wanted to share a few of those lessons with you. Make sure to comment down below what the year 2020 has taught you! I look forward to reading them 🙂
1. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready!
This year has definitely taught me to be prepared for any and everything!! Life is so unpredictable and can throw curve balls your way when you least expect it. Make sure you are always on top of things.
2. You’re not responsible for other’s healing.
You are not responsible for anyone’s healing but your own. Especially, if taking on someone else’s problems hinders your own personal growth. It’s okay to be a listening ear but some issues in life needs to be handled by a professional therapist. Don’t allow anyone to dump all of their trauma onto you. You’re responsible for your healing journey and everyone else is responsible for theirs. Protect your energy at all cost!
3. There is nothing wrong with seeking therapy.
Childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia are some of the most common mental health issues. Going to see a therapist and getting the help you need doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Healing yourself should be a main priority in your adult life. Reach out to a therapist and begin the journey of living a healthy, peaceful and happy life!
4. Life is short and unpredictable!
Live life as if the world is going to end tomorrow. Cherish every moment! Even the simple things because you never know when it will be taken away. Go on vacation, start the new hobby, and just live the best life you envision for yourself. Don’t be happy tomorrow choose happiness today!
5. Not everyone is going to support you and that’s okay!
Keep moving and striving to complete the personal goals you are trying to achieve. As long as you believe in yourself it doesn’t matter who doesn’t support you! You don’t need to seek validation from anyone else but yourself. Become your biggest supporter and only surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed in life.
6. Don’t beat yourself up over people and situations you can’t control.
There are so many things in life that we just don’t have any control over. Such as, what other people think, the weather, or the past. Stop thinking about situations or people that you can’t control because you’ll only drain yourself in the long run. Keep yourself focused on things you have control over such as your feelings, your goals, how you talk to yourself and how you treat others.
7. NO is a complete sentence!!!!
I’ve learned this year how to say no without feeling bad or explaining myself. It’s okay not to go places if you don’t want to. It’s okay to stay in the house and miss out on the party. It’s okay to take a day off from work for your mental health. It’s okay to change your mind and cancel plans. No means NO!! Stop explaining yourself!
Love,
