Contrary to popular belief, makeup does not come easy to some woman. Some may not know how to properly apply lashes, how to choose the correct foundation for her skin type or simply the basics of makeup.
The makeup world can be confusing and frustrating for a person who doesn’t know what they’re doing. Which is why for this blog, I reached out to professional makeup artist and entrepreneur of Erin Michelle Artistry Erin Michelle.
I wanted a professional makeup artist to shed light on questions that some may be afraid to ask. Below, Erin gave tips on how to achieve the perfect eyebrows, advice for future makeup artists, and so much more. Keep reading to see her responses 🙂
1. What made you decide to become a makeup artist?
Becoming a makeup artist was definitely not my dream at first. I simply just enjoyed creating looks on myself. Then one day I decided to branch out and take clients which helped to unlock my passion for makeup. Now, I enjoy being able to create looks for my clients which leaves them feeling confident and beautiful.
2. How long have you been doing makeup?
I began doing makeup back in 2015. In September of 2018 is when I began my career of doing makeup professionally.
3. Let’s talk brows. What is the best technique for perfect eyebrows ?
I prefer to use a brow pencil because it creates a more natural look. When filling in eyebrows remember to keep a light hand and create short hair like strokes to create realistic-looking hairs.
4. How do I keep my makeup on longer?
It all depends on how you prep your skin which is a key step. The products you use such as moisturizer, primer, and powder are important also and if done correctly may help with longer wear.

5. How do you prevent flashback in pictures?
It depends on the powder that you use. Make sure to not over use it and only apply the proper amount on your skin.
6. What is the proper way to apply lashes?
Lots of prayer (lol) but for me I find that looking down into a mirror is a huge help. Also, my technique is to apply the lash starting from the center of the eyelid and working my way down to the edges.
7. How often should I clean my makeup brushes?
You should clean your makeup brushes after one or two days. When working on others you should clean your brushes between each client.

8. What advice do you have for beginner makeup artists?
During downtime get in front of a mirror and start with the basics. Utilize social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. There are so many free resources out there for you to study. Remember with makeup it only gets better with time so practice as much as you can!!
