I am extremely excited! Sesame Street created a video for young African American girls and their natural hair.
Growing up I have always seen blonde, straight and long hair. I have never seen on televisions or in magazines an Afro, kinky, or coily hair texture.
African American women are told constantly our natural hair is nappy, unkempt, or not professional.
It was refreshing for others and myself to see a video that talks about embracing who you are.
I’m one year natural and I was scared to start my natural hair journey.
But, it was one of the best decisions I have made. The confidence that I have gained is amazing. I love my hair and who I am.
You should love yourself no matter what society may say. All hair types are beautiful. So embrace your “nappy” hair. We were created this way for a reason.
I want every little girl out there to LOVE their skin color and the beautiful features that comes with being black.
