When life gives you lemons you make lemonade.
“Some days are just bad days, that’s all. You have to experience sadness to know happiness, and I remind myself that not every day is going to be a good day, that’s just the way it is.” -Unknown
In order to cherish and appreciate the good, you have to endure the bad. I called a great friend one day because I was extremely tired of bad things happening in my life. She told me that “We go through things that shape us into who we are. Everything happens for a reason and it’s all for teaching us a lesson to become the best version of ourselves.” Despite me always saying to her “I’m tired of lessons” jokingly I knew that she was right. Things do happen for a reason and we need them to occur in order to grow.
Maybe you needed to leave your job, the relationship, friendship, to be broke or you just simply needed to be humbled. I have been through many situations that have helped shaped me into a better person. For example, I had to experience what it felt like trying to survive with less than $10 in my bank account. The lesson I learned was that I needed to manage money better. Another example, an ex-boyfriend betrayed me in the worst way and I had to call it quits. The lesson was I needed to learn what self-love was. The break up was a blessing in disguise because I learned my worth and how to love myself. The last example is about an old best friend I had. The friendship ended without a warning. I lost someone that I knew would always be by my side forever. The situation taught me that some people are in your life for a reason and some for a season.
I said all of that to say: Sometimes it will be extremely difficult to see the good in a situation. To sit back and think about what lesson you needed to learn. But, once you’ve figured out why it happened you will be happy it did. I’m happy that I went through those bad situations because they have helped me to grow.
What I want you to take from this is that “Everything happens for a reason. We have to go through the bad days to appreciate the good ones. If everything was good all the time we wouldn’t be able to appreciate life. Push through the bad days because there will always be sunshine after the rain. We always try to figure out the WHY in situations. Why did this happen? Why did this happen to me? Why did it end? Figure out the lesson you needed to learn from that situation and grow from it.”
I will always remember this advice from my great friend: “Some things aren’t meant to be understood. It’s okay not knowing why something happened. Just be thankful it did. Take the lesson and learn from it.” I hope you understand that in order to enjoy and appreciate the sunshine you have to go through a little rain.
